WATER CALCULATIONS

Water Volume Calculator for Pools and Tanks

Wave Bulk Water Co. is proud to deliver bulk water for storage tanks, pools, and spas. Use the guide below to estimate how much water you’ll need.

Understanding Pool Volume Calculations
Each pool shape is a little different, and so are the math formulas used to calculate how many gallons it holds. But don’t worry, we’ve broken it down to make it easier to follow.

Quick Tip: If you’re unsure or don’t want to calculate, just call us. We’ll bring the water and help estimate what you need on-site.

Basic Geometry Formulas

  • Rectangle/Square: Area = Length x Width
  • Right Triangle: Area = (Length x Width) / 2
  • Circle: Area = 3.14 x Radius x Radius

To Calculate Volume

  • Volume (in gallons) = Surface Area x Depth x 7.5

Constant Depth Pools: Length x Width x Depth x 7.5 = Volume (gallons)

Variable Depth Pools: Length x Width x Average Depth x 7.5 = Volume (gallons)

Average depth = (Shallow end + Deep end) / 2

Example: 25.75 ft x 10 ft x 6 ft x 7.5 = 11,587.5 gallons

Circular Pools: 3.14 x Radius x Average Depth x 7.5 = Volume (gallons)

Example: 3.14 x 25 x 3 x 7.5 = 1,766.25 gallons

Kidney or Irregular Shapes: 0.45 x (A+B) x Length x Average Depth × 7.5 = Volume (gallons)

Example: 0.45 x 18 x 25 x 5 x 7.5 = 7,593.75 gallons
